he doesn’t target

a man

not with

a profile

a status

like sports’ star

or a Burberry suited  businessman

in a city laneway

after dark

from behind −

with a coward punch,

he goes indoors

where it is quieter

the environment

more to his liking

and he slugs it out

using falls

and doorknobs

to cover her inadequacies

suspected domestic violence

Geoffrey Aitken is a minimalist driven by prescription medication. He must balance his lived experience against what entitles him to streetwear with others in an open-mic venue. He writes award-winning poetry on unceded Kaurna land, with his ‘disability’ always close by. Published [AUS]; [UK, US, HR, IND, RS, CAN, NG, Fr, CL & CN]. Recently, ‘Bipolar Poetry’ [AUS], ‘Ultramarine Literary’ [CL], ‘Short-listed ‘Rough Diamond Poetry Prize’; ‘underscore_Magazine’ [US]. Soon, ‘Meniscus’ [AUS]. Nominated Best of the Net 2022
