A VIOLENCE AT CEDAR LAKE

by George Freek

March 29, 2026 | Poetry | Overwhelmed

As trees crack like whips

in a furious wind,

waves pound the shore,

like jackhammers.

I close my shutters.

There’s little I can do,

when nature becomes violence

Nature controls things

this savage world.

The moon is lost

in a confusing haze,

but the moon is far away.

The stars are not there,

so they couldn’t care.

This is normal in nature,

but it could be disaster for me.

Rain falls like razors,

on God’s earth,

where billions of years ago,

there were no humans.

There was frozen glaciers.

I found this poem to be very powerful, with the words and the imagery. I could feel the rain.

Yes me too. I’ve read some Whitman and this reminds me of him.
