Calgary has a small but vibrant literary community. Here are a few magazines we love especially:

Filling Station: One of Canada’s (and perhaps the world’s) most recognizable experimental literary magazines. It releases two issues annually.

FreeFall Magazine: Published by the FreeFall Literary Society of Calgary, this magazine focuses on “exquisite writing”. It also hosts an annual Prose and Poetry Contest

NōD Magazine: Housed at the University of Calgary, this publication is run by undergraduate students. It focuses on poetry, prose, and visual art. You’ll find a very good read there.

The Prairie Journal: A staple of Western Canadian literature since 1983.

Exclamation Mark Literary Journal: Founded February 2026. We’re the “only” online-first outlet for poetry and prose in Calgary.
