Maze

by Dylan Lloyd

I feel stupid for using these colors on this canvas…

because my mind won’t let me just paint the heart.

Ventricles crisscross in a wasted maze of art…

so, I cover it in black to offset the scars.

But who am I to deny sweet taste

from a tongue deserving to navigate

the walls of her embrace?

So, I’ll just look to Him to understand my fate

This poem appears in Coffee Walk Poetry, an amazing collection the editors had the opportunity to read. The book covers short, reflective pieces centered on love and everyday life, written in a style that leans philosophical without being dense. Importantly, the collections include reflection pages that encourage a more personal, interactive reading experience. While the collection feels especially suited to solitary reading rather than public settings, it offers a sincere voice throughout, and is worth seeking out for readers drawn to quieter, introspective work.
